I am from india recently purchsed Robin. I have configured all 5 finger prints and also pattern(which is Mandatory). When phone is locked,i try to unlock by keeping my finger on the power button.But it didnt unlock the phone.
To unlock the phone: I need to press then screen wakeup and keep holding the finger to detect the finger print.When it detects the finger,it unlocks the phone.
Why it doesnot unlock the phone when keeping the finger on the power button as finger is already configured? Why i need to press and hold the power button to unlock?. I want to unlock my phone when i place the finger on the sensor.
Also it doesnot lock the phone by holding the finger on the power button.
Can anybody help me to solve this

@Mathanmr1988 welcome to the forums!
You just have to press and hold the finger print and release (You don't have to press and hold for too long. Just an instance) and in addition to what @kuroneko has mentioned, another reason why the fingerprint sensor has to be pressed to be activited is as nextbit didn't want people to accidentally unlock their phone all the time (when you press the power button to unlock, it means you are intentionally unlocking the phone).
If it doesn't unlock on the 1st round, sometimes it is accumulated dirt and on top of that, if your fingers are wet, the sensor finds it hard to detect prints The sensor works best with clean dry fingers
To lock the phone, you have to press the power button to lock. Similar to most android phones. touching it will not lock the screen. Or you can set the sreens to timeout and lock after a certain number of minutes

This is a deal breaker. Earlier I used to use a Nexus 4 device and was using power botton to bring the phone from standby. Extensive use broke the power botton and there was no way I could turn on the device. Its better to to have a work around and minimize the use of mechanical switches. This ensure longevity of the device.

Hi I am new to Nextbit Robin Phone and finger print scan set up. Since i coudnt make it work i was looking for solution and came across this section. After reading the reply i am still unable to understand .. What use is the finger print scan if i need to press power button as usual and also input PIN to unlock lock screen ? Thats how I had been unlocking any phone . is it not the purpose of the finger print scanner to unlock when you place the finger ? I understand the battery consumtion aspect. But if i choose to use finger print scan by just placing the finger to unlock it should work.. right? In addition to the issue the PIN setting is compulsory. I dont understand this. Please help me.

Well you seem to have two questions if i understood you right
1. Why you need to press the power button to use the fingerprint scanner to unlock
2. Why do you have to have to set up a different type of lock method (PIN,pattern, Password etc.)
1. The unique thing about Robin is that the fingerprint sensor is placed on the power button. Imagine having it on the back of the phone you would have had to first press the power button then keep your finger on the fingerprint scanner, so on the Robin this happens simultaneously as you press the power button the device wakes up, detects your finger and unlocks it hardly takes a second just your finger on the button for half a second and it unlocks and as mentioned before if the scanner was active all the time it would have caused battery drain issues and accidental unlocks.
2. Yes it's mandatory to set a different lock method (PIN, password, Pattern etc.) It's a Android core security feature this acts as a backup if the fingerprint fails or helps in situations where your fingerprint can't be used. For example if you cut your finger by accident you wouldn't be able to unlock your phone, isn't that painful?. So summing it up you have to set up a alternate lock other than the fingerprint lock, It's a Android feature and it's not exclusive to the Robin.
I hope i answered your questions properly, feel free to ask something else as well
